We will be met by Enrico Nardone, head of Seatuck Environmental Association and the Free the Nissequogue Coalition. (Check out their website at freethenissequogue.org.)

We will walk to the dam that was breached, and see the reborn Nissequogue River. The Nissequogue has been named as one of the most endangered rivers in America, because the County is still planning to build a new dam. But our coalition is continuing the fight to keep the river flowing free.

Enrico will explain the incredible opportunity the dam breach created to restore the river and floodplain as it existed more than 200 years ago. We will walk on to examine the habitat that is coming alive again. Bring binoculars if you want to see the birdlife that has returned. Enrico will explain the ecology and answer any questions you have.

If any folks are interested, they can continue on the trail around the lake (5+ miles) or take the Greenbelt Trail that runs right by where we are meeting.

There is no attendance limit or parking fee.
