Green Hairstreak Butterfly Open House and Bioblitz

Join Nature in the City for an Open House and Bioblitz in the Green Hairstreak Corridor.

Participants are encouraged to add observations through iNaturalist or Seek as part of the City Nature Challenge, a worldwide four-day event. Your sightings will count toward Nature in the City's Green Hairstreak Corridor monitoring efforts.

Guided walks will help you find and explore our various habitat sites. This is a collaborative event intended to nurture your specific interests and ignite your curiosity.

Program:

• 11:00-11:30 - Participants arrive at Golden Gate Heights Park, mix and mingle with other nature lovers, and load up on snacks
• 11:30-11:45 - Welcome and overview of the day, introduction to the Green Hairstreak Corridor, and preview of the walks and bioblitz
• 11:45-12:15 - Walks depart on various routes throughout the corridor. Shorter route for families, longer for intrepid naturalists
• 1:30-2:00 - Reconvene at Golden Gate Heights park to share findings, keep snacking, and depart

Preparation:

• Wear layers and prepare for a mix of sun, fog, and wind. Wear sturdy shoes.
• Load iNaturalist or Seek on your phone if you want to participate in the City Nature Challenge. Or just come as you are and enjoy the walk with expert naturalists!
• We will have plentiful snacks, drinks, and a porta-potty at the start/end location.

Parking and Transportation:

• The event will start and end at the Golden Gate Heights Park Picnic Area on 12th Ave.
• All the details about transportation and parking can be found in the Eventbrite.
• Important reminder: 19th Ave (northbound) will be closed between Sloat and Lincoln. Plan your detour and expect traffic if coming from the west side of the city... although the East-West roads should be open (Judah, Noriega, etc).
