Join us for seeing the Azalea blooms, a DC attraction that not everybody knows about but that people travel to see! The U.S. National Arboretum is known for its annual azaleas bloom: there are thousands of azaleas and a whole pathway named for the azaleas.
We will plan to spend about 1.5 hours at the arboretum, seeing the Azaleas and other plants, followed by lunch for those who would like to have it.
The Arboretum is a big place, and it is easy to get lost. Please plan come early (such as 10:45 arrival) so you can easily find the group and not end up wandering alone!
As there is more than one entrance, please drive in by going East on R street to the intersection of R street and Hickey. There will be a big parking lot there. Park your car and follow signs to the visitor center. Look for Aditya at the front-door entrance to the visitor center, which is at a circular driveway.
If you come early, then check out the national herb garden by the visitor center while waiting. We will meet at the visitor center at 11:00 and say hi to each other and talk about what else people would like to see in the arboretum. At 11:15, we will leave the visitor center, and go to see the Azaleas, then go see other plants. Finally, we will have an optional lunch for people who would like it.
Public transport is less convenient for this location compared to some of our other events. If anyone would like a ride or drive others to the arboretum, they should post in the comments that they are interested in carpooling, whether they would like to be a rider or a driver, and which neighborhood they will be coming from.
