ADHD Learning: ADHD and the Default Mode Network

Details

When you have an epiphany in the shower about something you weren’t really thinking about, that’s your DMN!

Basically, any time you are having thoughts swirling around your brain, but they aren’t from concentrating on something… that’s your Default Mode Network.

Some of us with ADHD feel like those are the only thoughts we have, it can feel like being in one of those flying cash boxes, trying to grab as many thoughts as we can, stuffing them into our shirt and pockets as they zoom around us.

Tonight we find out why!

Scanning for activity levels in the Default Mode Network is a fascinating way neuroscientists can "see" ADHD happen. We will talk about the science but also how it applies to our everyday experiences and what we can do about it!

This knowledge can be really helpful in understanding how and why we get distracted, especially if we get more distracted the more we try to focus! We will also chat a little bit about treatments, medical and non-medical.

This meeting will start with a presentation on the topic and then we will open the floor to discussion with the group where we can talk about our experiences. My hope is that everyone will walk away with a better understanding of how their ADHD brain performs.
