Practical Application of Artificial Intelligence for Small Businesses

Details

We’ve all heard the phrase – “artificial intelligence is the future of cybersecurity” or “artificial intelligence will solve our cybersecurity woes.” What always seems to be missing after these proclamations is the practical application of artificial intelligence (AI) within the field of cybersecurity. What’s worse, is there’s even less substance when you try to find out how AI can solve small business challenges. In this talk, we will explore the practical application of AI for small businesses. AI can be used to assist with a range of challenges – from solving mundane administrative tasks to employing behavioral detection techniques to protect your enterprise against sophisticated online criminals. We’ll close with a conversation about how AI can even be used to help your small business make strategic investments in cybersecurity.

We are very fortunate to have Trevor Rudolph present this very practical leading edge topic. Trevor is WhiteHawk’s Chief Operating Officer. In this role, Trevor is responsible for the management and continuous improvement of all WhiteHawk customer-facing operations, with a focus on CyberSecurity best of breed practices, solutions, and enablement while continuing to provide thought leadership across the global CyberSecurity industry. Prior to joining WhiteHawk, Trevor was the first ever Chief of the Cyber and National Security Division at the Office of Management and Budget, where he led a team at the forefront of US government CyberSecurity Policy. Trevor managed the US government's 30-Day CyberSecurity Sprint (https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/blog/2015/06/17/fact-sheet-enhancing-and-strengthening-federal-government-s-cybersecurity) and was the lead architect of both the Cybersecurity Strategy and Implementation Plan (CSIP) (https://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/memoranda/2016/m-16-04.pdf) and President Obama’s Cybersecurity National Action Plan (CNAP) (https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/the-press-office/2016/02/09/fact-sheet-cybersecurity-national-action-plan). Under Trevor’s leadership, the US government saw a 40% increase in the use of multi-factor authentication, a 50% reduction in the time to detect cyber incidents, and a 35% increase in CyberSecurity spending.

Trevor is a two-time winner of Federal Computer Week’s Fed 100 Award (https://fcw.com/articles/2016/02/08/2016-federal-100-winners.aspx). He currently serves as a member of the AFCEA DC Executive Advisory Board and the New Orchestra of Washington Board of Directors (http://neworchestraofwashington.org/leadership/). Trevor holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the College of William and Mary and is a frequent public speaker and guest lecturer on a variety of CyberSecurity topics.

We are returning to our Marshall Academy, 7731 Leesburg Pike (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Marshall+High+School/@38.9059082,-77.214501,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x89b64ad8b312f901:0xdbe71942a694a2cf!8m2!3d38.905904!4d-77.2123123?hl=en), Falls Church, VA home location for the upcoming school year. If you are heading east on Leesburg Pike, you will make a right turn entering the school grounds. Continue around the school to the right. You will see Entrance #9 and continue past it a few feet where you will see parking.

This Fairfax County Public School is a designated Governor’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Academy. All students are encouraged to join us in our LifeBoat and help start our meetings. Student volunteers will give our LifeBoat group a short presentation to our friendly and interested group on current cyber events of their choice.

Everyone may bring in your own snacks, lunch, and drinks to the “brunch lunch” 11am-1pm meeting. Some people also informally get together for “after the meeting” lunch together at a nearby restaurant

Besides earning Professional Development Units (PDUs) for participating our ISSA NOVA chapter Partner meeting, we all receive the encouragement and help we need for our cyber security professional growth. The friendly interactive presentations by our members of the meetup always lead to lively respectful discussions. Members always take away information that they that can be applied on the job in the following weeks! In additional our LifeBoat group meetings provide opportunities for the all-important professional networking. If you have a vexing problem, share with like-minded security professionals. They may have already successfully developed a way forward to resolve it.
