Who Are You Fighting? Martial Arts and Psychoanalysis
Details
Hi All,
This week we have a special guest from out of town who’s hosting the topic. This should be a fun one!
A little about Nicole:
Nicole began her athletic training at 28 months old and started competing in swimming at age 4. In high school, she started her fighting career, becoming the only woman on her high school wrestling team. In college, she began studying Uechi-Ryu karate, an Okinawan style of traditional karate known for simple, but effective, techniques, body/mind/spirit connection, and body conditioning. Her martial arts career now spans 24 years, including placing 4th in fighting in the women’s division of the world championships. Nicole currently holds the rank of 5th degree black belt (Godan), making her a senior instructor (Sensei). A senior rank means Nicole is qualified to test and certify other instructors in her style. It also means she’s retired from fighting and can now serve as a referee at tournaments. Nicole’s presentation style is a combination of live demos, humorous stories, and analysis on the mind and spirit connections of martial arts, including psychoanalytic theory.
Through a series of demonstrations and conversations, Nicole, will discuss the alignment and divergent points of psychoanalysis and martial arts theory and practice.
