What's Going Wrong with my JVM?! - A Guide to First Time Failure Analysis

Details
It's 2am Friday night, and you have a large software deployment in 5 hours. Suddenly, you receive alerts for your primary business application. The application is up, it's just not responding, and the user tickets are piling up. What's going wrong? How do you tell?
For situations like these, you need to have already captured the data that can help you quickly get a sense of the what's going wrong. Yet, many production environments have not enabled such data collection and some diagnostics have a performance cost that is unsuitable for many production applications. So, what is recommended and what can you do with the data you're allowed to collect?
In this session, we’ll look at some of the most commonly reported problems for Java applications, Java heap memory issues, and how to use low-cost data collection to diagnose those problems at first time failure.
Speaker:
Sandra Payne is the JVM Area Lead for Java Platform Group Support at Oracle. She began working with the Java SE Support team at Sun Microsystems in Burlington, MA, over 20 years ago and has spent the past several years specializing in JVM technology, diagnostics, and performance tuning. When not solving the world's JVM issues, you will lately find her cycling, traveling, or hanging out with her vibrant son, Sam.
Note:
Please RSVP for this event by the day before it happens so we can give the attendee list to the venue host/sponsor. If your name isn't on the list, you won't be allowed in. Also, make sure the name on your Meetup profile is similar to the name on your ID, which you'll need to show when you check in.
