At tonight's talk, we will discuss why one should avoid writing their own scheduling system with the same fervent trepidation employed when glancing over the guardrail while on tour at a water treatment plant. A useful tool for complex scheduling is AWS StepFunctions, which allows both short-term and long-term scheduling that is simple to kickoff, features a straightforward DSL to express dependencies and contingencies, and doesn’t require any server management.

Presenting this will be Andrew Hannon, an accomplished DIY scheduler sufferer. He currently works as VP of Engineering at Valt, Inc (valt.io), where he doesn’t have to pour through 1000s of lines of code looking for the bug in the bespoke constraint module of the scheduling system.
