Law and Business Center to Explore Small Business and the Financial Meltdown

Posted September 7, 2011 The Western New England University Law and Business Center for Advancing Entrepreneurship will kick off its 2011-2012 speaker series with a talk by Michael Malloy on Thursday, September 29 at noon in the Blake Law Center Commons. Malloy will discuss “Anatomy of a Meltdown: The Continuing Small Business Impact.” The event is free and open to the public.

Malloy’s talk will examine the root causes and pervasive impact of the subprime mortgage market meltdown and the subsequent global financial crisis. Malloy argues that government responses to the crisis neglected small business operations and community banks, which continue to feel the impact of the meltdown.

http://www1.wne.edu/images/Michael_Malloy.jpgAn internationally recognized expert on bank regulation and on economic sanctions, Malloy has been a law professor for nearly 30 years and currently serves as Distinguished Professor and Scholar at the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law. He has authored or edited more than 100 books and book-length supplements in such fields as bank regulation, corporate/securities law, economic sanctions, international banking, philosophy, and public international law. His latest book, Anatomy of a Meltdown: A Dual Financial Biography of the Subprime Mortgage Crisis, traces the course of financial icons Lehman Brothers and Washington Mutual on their path to financial ruin and explores measures to avoid similar crises in the future.
