Stammtisch in Media, Delaware County!
There is no event fee for the Stammtisch - each participant pays for his or her own food and beverages. Stammtisch is a very informal event. The amerikanische "Du" rule is always in effect - das heisst everyone here is on a first name basis, and may be addressed as "Du" rather than as "Sie." Typically 6 to 15 people participate from 6:30 until about 9 pm or so and come and go as they please. Although those with limited German are welcome to come, please keep in mind our purpose is to speak German and some Stammtisch regulars may not be inclined to converse much in English. Our hosts at Brauhaus Schmitz have generously offered us a special Happy Hour price until 7:30 - $4 draft beers and $4 Wurst sandwiches. Please show your appreciation and order something and tip kindly. We are most likely sitting upstairs or in the back room. For more location information, go to http://www.brauhausschmitz.com. **Please note that the number of RSVPs shown here on Meetup.com or Facebook rarely reflect the number of people actually attending :) Please RSVP when possible so the Stammtisch hosts have an idea how many are attending. Prost!
If you have Nutella in your closet and speak German then you have found the right site! Get together with local people who are interested in speaking German. Freshen up your German in a fun way, by having informal conversations with friendly people. For those new to the Stammtisch experience, no worries. Stammtisch is open to anyone at any level of proficiency in German. The point is informal conversation in a relaxed atmosphere with native and non-native speakers. To facilitate this, the amerikanische "du" rule is always in effect. That is, everyone is on a first-name basis and addresses one another with the informal "du", rather than "Sie," in order remove any anxieties or misunderstandings that may come up. This event is free - pay only for what you order. Please be prepared to pay with cash, as often it is not an option to get separate checks. Should that be the case, please be vigilant of what you order and how much you leave for tip, so that others aren't left paying more than necessary. If you can't find us, ask the staff and they should be able to direct you. Stammtisch is a very informal event: people come and go when they wish. If you arrive and no one is there, you may just be the first person to arrive. Have a seat and hang out for a bit!
Speakers range from intermediate to fluent, including many native German-speakers. Join us! We meet in the Corner Bakery at 17th St. and John F. Kennedy Blvd. - usually at the tables next to the 17th Street windows. Look for us there. If you are on time and can't find anyone, you are probably the first one there. Take a seat in the window area and wait for the others. Typically, 8-15 people attend Center City Brunch. The amerikanische "Du" rule is always in effect - das heisst everyone here is on a first name basis, and may be addressed as "Du" rather than as "Sie." Please note that the number of RSVPs shown here on Meetup.com or Facebook rarely reflect the number of people actually attending :)
