Tokyo X a celebrations of Japanese culture, bringing together the sights, sounds, and spirit of Japan through an immersive two-day festival in Houston, Texas. More than an anime convention, Tokyo X is a cultural experience designed to showcase both the traditions that have shaped Japan for centuries and the modern entertainment that continues to inspire millions around the world.

Each year, thousands of attendees gather to explore a diverse mix of attractions, including anime, manga, cosplay, gaming, Japanese music, fashion, automobiles, martial arts, traditional arts, food, collectibles, and interactive cultural experiences. The festival features celebrity guests from Japan and the United States, voice actors, artists, musicians, professional cosplayers, industry exhibitors, and hundreds of vendors and creators from around the world.

Tokyo X is built around the idea of bringing every aspect of Japanese culture under one roof. Visitors can experience everything from samurai history, tea ceremonies, calligraphy, taiko performances, and traditional crafts to esports tournaments, idol performances, drifting exhibitions, car showcases, cosplay competitions, fashion shows, and live concerts. Synopsis: When Jubei saves a young ninja woman from the unthinkable, he assumes that’s the end of it. To his surprise, it’s only just the beginning. Together, the two investigate the mysterious deaths of an entire village which uncovers a conspiracy of demonic proportions! Getting closer to the truth, the demonic forces will stop at nothing to silence Jubei and his companion for good!

Written and directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, Ninja Scroll was originally released in 1993 and is now considered a truly seminal work in anime filmmaking. The 4K restoration of Ninja Scroll was produced by AMC Global Media’s Sentai under the supervision of Director Yoshiaki Kawajiri and was screened for this first time earlier this year at its world premiere during the 76th Annual Berlinale international film festival. The digital adaptation was a painstaking restoration and remastering of the movie — a meticulous process that involved a 4K scan (3840 × 2160 pixels) of the original 35mm negative, then repairing any damage and lastly performing color correction to create an archival quality digital master of the film.

CONTENT ADVISORY: This film contains graphic depictions of violence, gore, and explicit sexual situations that may be upsetting to some viewers.

Since the 1950s, Koreans have been an integral part of Houston’s history. Throughout the decades the Korean community quietly preserved its heritage and traditions through local events like small-scale festivals and parades. Prior to 2009, there had not been a unifying event that all of Houston could partake in and bring together the entire Korean-American community.

The enterprising young professionals of the Korean-American Society of Houston (KASH) organized the very first Korean Festival Houston in the Houston Community College – Spring Branch parking lot with the support of local community and business organizations. The success of that inaugural event was clear evidence of the significant demand for the Korean cultural experiences in Houston.
Bolstered by the enthusiastic support from the community, KASH made a bold decision in the very next year to move the Korean Festival to its current home at Discovery Green.
