This Meetup event has been set up to enable participants to coordinate carpooling, ask questions, etc.
People carpooling from ABQ, meet at 7:30 am at the Smith's, Tramway and Central, south side of the parking lot.
People coming from the East Mountains, meet at 8:00 at the Shell station at the bottom of the Crest road (hwy 14 & 536).
We will meet at Ellis Trailhead in the Sandias. It's at about mile 12 on the Crest road (left side as you're going up). Parking is limited, carpooling is encouraged. We will break into small groups and work on basic skills for 2-3 hours, and then do a short ski tour, depending on participants' ability and interest.
Skills we will cover include getting up after falling down, "kick and glide" striding over the snow, basic maneuvering using step turns, kick turns, using herringbone or sidestep to go uphill, snowplow for controlling downhill speed and direction. Students will be in small groups and each instructor will tailor the day's activities to the students' skills and interests.
