Level: Beginner / Novice Format: Presentation / Discussion What to Bring: Beginner's Photography Guide / Camera / Note taking materials General Info: In this workshop we will present information on the various types and kinds of lenses photographers use in their work and art. We will discuss the typical applications for which each type of lens is used and the need for special lenses. We will also present the considerations to be evaluated in lens selection including focal length and focusing requirements. The lens is one of the most critical components in photography, and the quality of the lens is arguably even more important than the quality of your camera: a top-of-the-range camera will never achieve the results it is capable of if it is paired with a lower grade lens, but a good lens can unlock the full potential of even the most modest SLR camera or CSC. In this chapter, you’ll find out what lenses are available, and how to get the best from them. In this session we will also explore the different types of lenses: prime, zoom, and macro, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of using wide-angle and telephoto. In addition, we will discuss focal length, crop factors, and image stabilization and how these affect your decisions as to what is the right set of individual components to achieve your photographic goal. Please read pages 100 thru 118 in your book and be sure to bring it with you! See you there.
