What we’re about
We are a Wine and Dine Group! We share some good (sometimes Great!) bottles of wine over food and conversation.
A few times per month, we have small group dinners, either 6, 8 or 10 people at each event. The group organizers will host dinners on both weeknights and weekends. The organizer will supply 4 bottles of wine for 6 person dinners, 5 bottles of wine for 8 person dinners, and 6 bottles of wine for 10 person dinners. Most of the time, the wines will come from the event organizer's personal collection.
The cost of each event will be for an individual's share of the wine and in some cases the wine corkage charge of the restaurant. Dinner is not included and must be paid for at the event.
To attend an event, the wine payment must be made in advance, and reservations are on a first come, first serve basis. Once you pay, refunds or credits are only available if you cancel AND your spot gets filled by someone else. All refunds are subject to a cancellation fee from $3 to $5, depending on the cost of the event. There is no refund or credit for no-shows.
No other outside wine will be permitted, unless prior arrangements have been made with the host, but attendees may order wine or spirits from the restaurant, at their own expense. Attendees are expected to order at least an entree and one other item from the menu, either an appetizer, a side dish or a dessert.
Along with the wine charge, everyone will be expected/required to pay for their own meal, along with a 33% charge for tax and tip.
We will be dining at restaurants that we have established relationships with, where we can bring our own wine for us to enjoy. Corkage varies from restaurant to restaurant, from Zero to $25 per bottle.
PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU DON'T HAVE A PROFILE PICTURE WHERE I CAN SEE YOUR FACE, YOU WILL BE REJECTED FOR MEMBERSHIP IN THIS GROUP.

See all- Under the radar Burgundy @ Afghan Kebab House!Afghan Kebab House, Manhattan, NY$35.00
For the past few years, I have been purchasing wines from "Down to Earth Wines" in Delaware. The owner is a passionate wine dealer, who travels to Europe to meet the winemakers he has relationships with and taste their wines. He sends out a few offerings a week, mostly from Burgundy, but occasionally from other regions. Each offering is for one producer and it is VERY verbose as offering also includes a history of the winery. I recently bought a mixed case of Burgundy from a producer I've never heard of, and that I can't find reviews for. But I trust this retailer, so here goes...... Join me at Afghan Kebab House for a night of "Under the Radar Burgundy wines" By the way, the winery is Modot-Guyon. The wines are mostly from Chambolle-Musigny.
Afghan Kebab House is located at 1st Ave, between E.75th and E. 76th Streets. They are a small restaurant with ZERO corkage! We have dined there before and really liked it.
As they are small, I'm going to limit this event to 6 people. We will have 1 white wine and 3 red wines. All from Washington State.
Looking at their menu they seem to be a mix between the menus at OM Indian and ABA Turkish.
Here is a link to their menu..
Afghan Kebab House MenuThe cost for this event is $35, and is for the wine only.
PLUS a reminder of our usual rules:
You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). Please order at least two courses (i.e. a main dish and either appetizer or dessert) for your dinner. There are very few restaurants that allow us to bring our own wine for a low corkage fee. We must be good guests to encourage the restaurant to continue to be generous to us.
Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee.
NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It comes to approximately $3 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. MEETUP+ members are exempt from this charge.
Please use public transportation - NO DRINKING AND DRIVING!
The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner):
2023 Modot-Guyon Bourgogne Aligote ($24) - From the importer: "A tasty everyday quaffer that is prototypical Aligoté, on white florals, light chalkiness, with present but well balanced acidity. I think that solid Aligoté like this is routinely underestimated, and incredibly versatile."
2023 Modot-Guyon Bourgogne ($27) - The basic Pinot Noir, from the importer, "I didn't get to taste this, hailing from both Chambolle and the flats below the Clos. I have to imagine that it will deliver and then some for the money."
2023 Modot-Guyon Chambolle-Musigny Village ($60) - From the importer, "Now we're getting down to the serious portion of the program. This is from three separate lieux dits, Les Maladieres, les Mal Carrées, and le Clos de l'Orme, all of which are on the E/downhill aspect of the village, on the large high plain of Chambolle. This is denser and more structured than the Creux Baissants, fuller, darker red fruits, spices, and still with the limestone lift of Chambolle. As is characteristic of the wines in this same eastward trajectory (1er cru les Charmes, 1er cru les Plantes), this is a fuller, broader, and deeper soiled expression of Chambolle, and a pretty darn good one at that. Bravo...."
2023 Modot-Guyon Chambolle-Musigny les Creux Baissants ($67) - From the importer, "This is my pet favorite, and I think perhaps Adrien's as well.....This is a single parcel wine from the cooler, north facing pocket up against the forest, and whose name literally translated is close to "the lowering hollow", as it is a physically depression in every sense, some 5 feet below the road with all things tilted downwards/ all work here is resultantly by hand. You can see in the picture above the large chunks of limestone in the soil. This one is all about the cooler, airy, lacy, delicate side of Chambolle, and a plain great one at that. Little red fruits, limestone salinity both aromatically and in the mouth. It just has so much character and prettiness, as well as Adrien always expressing his affinity for it, that made me identify it as the "house flagship" bottling.....get this if this sounds like your cup of tea.....a little * awarded here."

Just a reminder of our usual rules:

The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner):
Burgundy – August 24, 2025 @ Nice Matin
2022 Jean-Pierre Guyon Nuits St. Georges Les Argillats Blanc ($85) - "Pinot blanc, filtered but not fined, and ready to bottle. 30% new wood and 13.46% alcohol. This is the first time this wine has hit the yield since he purchased the vineyard in 2006. The palate fills out gorgeously, while there is a fine chiselled fresh finish. Both halves of the equation work. Drink from 2026-2030. Tasted: November 2023." 89-91 Jasper Morris "Four Star" wine.. From the Importer, “Another unique house specialty, Jean-Pierre planted the infamous Gouges Pinot blanc clone, a wild white mutation of Pinot Noir, some 20 years ago in the cool, sloped lieu dit les Argillats that sits directly in the Combe de Nuits valley. Unless i've misunderstood, he and Gouges are the only two who bottle this unique genetic patrimony. The combination of its SE exposure, cool wind from the Combe, and the high amount of active limestone in the soil here makes for a wowie zowie good bottle of singular white Burgundy, as Pinot Blanc's richness and broad aromatic range proves to be dazzling here, with both limestone intimations aromatically and in the mouth to render it even more complete and dynamic. I found this to be wonderfully complex and chalky, with the kind of fruit/acid balance that is a mouthwatering delight.”2013 Dureuil-Janthial Rully 1er Cru Vieilles Vignes ($50) – My last bottle of this and I have loved them all. From Rully and this is before D-J’s price skyrocketed.
2020 Henri Magnien Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes ($70)
2007 Domaine Henri Boillot Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets ($55)
2018 Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Au Closeau ($80) -

Summer is winding down, so of course I'm going to hold a high-end Cabernet Sauvignon night! Because these wines are special and I'd like each of us to be able to enjoy more of them, I will hold this event to 6 people.
For this dinner with 6 people, we'll be having one white wine and three reds. It will be at Bobby Van's on Park Avenue, at the corner of Park Avenue and 46th Street.

The Wines:
2021 Littorai Chardonnay Charles Heintz Vineyard ($115) - CT 93, WA 95 points, "Flinty with wet rocks, the 2021 Chardonnay Charles Heintz is a youthful straw with a hint of silver and has a bit of the tropics in its aromatics of white peach and fresh herbs. On the palate, it has fantastic balance and vibrant energy, with notes of lemon oil and sea spray, and it has good tension running through it, with a mineral texture. Drink 2024-2034. Heidi and Ted Lemon operate Littorai from their Gold Ridge Estate in Sebastapol, where they produce Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from exceptional cool-climate vineyard sites on the Sonoma Coast and in Anderson Valley. Ted is hands down one of Sonoma's most important farmers and winemakers today. Though they farm biodynamically, they prefer to describe their practices in the vineyards as “Generative Farming,” a term intended to include the human relationship to the stewardship and shaping of the land as part of modern nature and integrated farming. In the winery, all the wines undergo spontaneous fermentations, with the reds going through two to three weeks of fermentation, and although Ted is not dogmatic in his approach, each of the wines is raised similarly.
2013 Realm Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard ($250) - CT 96, WA 98+ points, "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and again aged in 100% new oak. The production is slightly higher than the Dr. Crane at 500 cases. This opaque colored wine offers up blueberry liqueur, crème de cassis, coffee bean, roasted meats, and a floral note. It is rich, powerful, dense and primordial, but wow, is it spectacular! Produced from clones 4 and 337 of Cabernet, this is another 30-year effort and a great classic. (drink 2015-2045)"
2013 O'Shaughnessy Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder ($140) - CT 94.3, WA 96 points, "The blockbuster 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and 100% from Mt. Veeder. This is magnificent, with blue and black fruits galore, a dense, opaque purple color, and notes of creamy oak interwoven with enormous quantities of highly extracted fruit and velvety tannins in a voluptuously textured, multi-layered stunner. This wine still shows plenty of grip and tannin, so give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 30 years. This is a big-time winner. (drink 2019-2045)"
2015 Lewelling Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Wight ($70) - CT 92.9, JD 98 points, "The flagship cuvee from this estate is the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Wight Vineyard and it’s always a cellar selection of top lots from the estate vintage. I was able to taste this cuvee from two bottles and this is an undeniably majestic, ethereal effort from the Weight Family. Huge amounts of blue fruits, spring flowers, sandalwood, lavender, and potpourri notes all literally soar from the glass and this beauty has just about everything you could want in a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. With a full-bodied, deep, concentrated style, incredible complexity, hints of background oak, and layers of sweet tannin, give bottle 2-3 years of bottle age and drink over the following 2-3 decades. Bravo! I loved both the 2014s and 2015s from Lewelling, but have to give the nod to the 2015s, which have that extra dimension. (Drink between 2018-2048)"
