Architecting Resilience with Oracle Global Data Services (GDS)
Details
This session demystifies Oracle Global Data Services (GDS) - a policy-driven service layer that unifies primary, standby, replicas, and cache databases to deliver intelligent routing, global load balancing, and continuous availability. We’ll cover core GDS components (GSM, catalog, pools, policies), how to define role/region/lag-aware global services, and client requirements (FAN/FCF with UCP/ODP.NET/OCI, and TNS timeouts) for seamless failover and switchover. You’ll see how, for many customers, GDS enables zero and near-zero-downtime maintenance with Transparent Application Continuity, accelerates migrations, and puts standby capacity to work - integrating with RAC, Active Data Guard, GoldenGate, and True Cache. Attendees leave with practical deployment steps, best practices, and real-world use cases to improve HA/DR, performance, and operations.
