Let's check out the annual Trees of Hope at the Long Wharf Maritime Center in New Haven, our third year doing this. Then take an optional short walk of the lovely nature preserve (weather permitting). Some photos from last year are attached. Meet at 12 p.m. inside the entrance. There is free parking on the street or in the garage. Trees of Hope is held at the Long Wharf Maritime Center, 555 Long Wharf Drive, from December 6 through December 14. Free admission.

Since 1990, Trees of Hope has served as a holiday tradition in Greater New Haven. This event is open to the public daily and will feature over 160 beautiful holiday displays donated and sponsored by individuals, local businesses and community organizations. It is a fun event for the entire family and a perfect way to get in the holiday spirit and kick off this special season. Trees of Hope is our largest fundraising event and therefore, instrumental in securing the funds necessary to support the brave children and families at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts.

Long Wharf Nature Preserve is situated along the highway in New Haven. Once inside the Preserve, you won't believe you are so close to the highway. Just off I-95 and fronting New Haven Harbor, this preserve is the result of human disturbance and the resilience of nature. The upland, created by filling, evolved into a grassland and a small woodland dominated by tall cottonwood trees, almost all the result of natural seed dispersion. At low tide, the preserve is approximately 15 acres, from mud flat to dune to salt marsh to upland. A loop trail connects the shore and upland area, and also connects to the historic City Point neighborhood. Some photos are attached.

If inclement weather or very cold, we will just do the Trees of Hope; the walk afterward is weather and interest permitting. If snow or slippery roads, reschedule date is Sunday, December 7th at 12 noon.
