Mahjong beginners session

Casual beginners session in Bally's Casino in Newcastle, in March.

We'll stick to the basics, and use old-style Hong Kong rules - which is a very good place to start. Score sheets and numbered tiles will be available, so you don't need to learn Chinese numbers beforehand.

Should start around 7pm, traffic permitting. We should be off to the side of Freya's Bar, and we won't be the groups of Chinese playing at a brisk rate(!)

Book suggestion: "Mahjong: House Rules from Across the Asian Diaspora" by Nicole Wong. Great intro to the general game and the key styles.

Longer term, we're trying to get more regular games going in the Newcastle area and nearby, including for Japanese Riichi style. I'm planning to try a specific Riichi event towards the end of March. Please see facebook group for further info ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/2397560907193849).
