Rio Grande Gorge in New Mexico
Details
We'll be packing our gear down to the bottom of the gorge and camping at some shelters on the bank of the river. It's only 1.2 to 1.5 miles depending on the shelter but it's a 680 feet drop. There is a spring called Big Arsenic Spring. The trailhead is also named the Big Arsenic.
Day hiking and fishing are the main activities but trails on the rim are good for mountain bikes. If you get there in time you can hike down on Friday. Otherwise grab a campsite on the rim for $7 and hike down Saturday. You can also drive down on Saturday.
I've also posted this in New Mexico but the time from Albuquerque and Colorado Springs is about the same.
There may be a $5 charge for a shelter per night but it's not clear.
I'll be at the campground with my RV trailer on the rim for 2 weeks from May 1 to 15.
