Respectfully Visit An Abandoned Cemetary
Details
All Hallows Eve, Halloween, Dia de los Muertos, these are days traditionally to remember the dead, the spirits, the process of passing on.
Take the chance this time of year to honor and remember the Indigenous people that have lived and died here before us. The Comet Lodge Cemetary is an ancient Indigenous burial ground.
Then it became a cemetery for early Seattle residents from 1895-1936 and became the final resting place of at least 450 individuals. But when the land fell into disuse, gravemarkers were moved, destroyed and some of the land was used to build new homes.
The history of this Cemetary is a sad one. There's little maintenance. No parking lot. It is gradually fading back to nature. But before it's gone, this is a chance to visit and appreciate those who were here before us. Come join me in walking these grounds and seeing what happens when progress and development messes with history and the dead and buried.
Meetup Location:

The Plan
We will gather and respectfully walk the Cemetary grounds respecting the neighbors who live there as well as the dead buried under the land that we walk.
