What we’re about

Welcome to the Nexus of Spirituality, Psychology, and Wellness, where we convene in person roughly every three weeks. Our gatherings provide a fertile ground for discussions that weave together scientific insights and spiritual wisdom. Our aim is to explore and understand the convergence—the very nexus—of these disciplines.

Our overarching goal is multifaceted: we aspire to learn from each other, offer mutual support, solidify the ties within our community, and engage in thought-provoking dialogues. Founded in January 2023 by Ben Nissan, we've had an enriching first year and are eagerly looking ahead to continue our journey into 2024 with enthusiasm and an open heart.

Here are some topics we have covered in the past and will continue to explore:

Understanding and Managing Difficult Emotions
Fear
Trauma
Anger

Exploring Consciousness and Personal Transformation
Synchronicity
Psychedelics
Meditation and Breathe work

Positive Psychology and Personal Growth
Happiness and Meaning
Love
Altruism

Interpersonal Dynamics and Emotional Intelligence
Relationships
The Dark Triad (Narcissism, Psychopathy, and Sadism)
Forgiveness

MEET YOUR ORGANIZER
Hi, I'm Ben - a curious mind and a seeker of truth. My background is diverse, ranging from entrepreneurship and law to psychology and the arts. I graduated from the University of Guelph with a degree in Psychology and later obtained a law degree from the University of Western Ontario.

However, what sets me apart is my passion for connecting seemingly disparate ideas into cohesive frameworks. This approach has led me to explore the intersection of psychology, spirituality and wellness - which has been a significant part of my personal journey. I believe that there is an important connection between these fields and by bringing them together, we can unlock the true potential of the human mind, body and spirit.

Living in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, I'm driven by a desire to help people navigate and understand an increasingly complex world. I believe that fostering connections between people in my own community is as important as finding connections between ideas, and I hope that through this meetup group, we can do both.

Therefore, I invite you to join our community of seekers as we explore the intersection of spirituality, psychology, and wellness. We will delve into topics such as mindfulness, personal growth, and self-discovery through the lens of spiritual and psychological teachings. Whether you're interested in learning more about the connection between the mind and spirit, or simply looking for a supportive group to discuss these topics with, this meetup is for you. Come and connect with like-minded individuals and discover new ways to enhance your physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.

At the inception of our Nexus of Spirituality, Psychology, and Wellness series, I invited your suggestions for topics of interest. I married your thoughtful inputs with some of my own ideas and discovered a collection of themes. This model will be our guiding principle for the foreseeable future.

I hope to continue this enriching journey with your continued participation and engagement. Thank you for being part of this community!

A Note About Emotions and Trauma
During our meetups, it's natural for members to experience and express strong emotions, which we fully embrace and accept. However, it's crucial to differentiate between sharing emotions and processing deep trauma within the group. While the line between these two may sometimes be blurred, they are distinct phenomena. Our group is comprised of compassionate, wise individuals who are capable of holding space for others' strong emotions. Therefore, we encourage you to express your emotions openly. However, our group isn't currently equipped or designed to address trauma in real-time. If you are experiencing a major life crisis and/or you want to process your trauma, it is best to do so with a trained professional. The danger of doing it in a group setting with strangers is that you can retraumatize yourself and others and not receive the adequate support you need.

If you wish to support the group further, consider making a donation.

Thank you for your support!
