Details

NOTE -- we are at Alchemy Code Lab this month and starting at 6:30 instead of 6!

You read that right, people: VAIDEHI JOSHI is coming to speak to us, despite having just emcee'd EmberConf. Thanks Vaidehi!

We're also super lucky to be visited this month by NATHAN WALKER! Nathan is a great guy and working on XPlat at NStudio. Nathan lived in Portland for a long time, so we're thrilled to have him back with us.

Sam will also be giving his ng-conf talk "Convince Your Boss to Upgrade in 5 Minutes."

You won't want to miss this!

Vaidehi's talk:
Title: What we talk about when we talk about the JavaScript object model
Description: If you've ever used JavaScript, you've probably created an object at some point. JavaScript's object model is used by many, but perhaps understood by few. In this talk, we'll explore the inner workings & hidden properties of JS objects, as well as how to interact with them, and why they even matter.

Vaidehi's Super Official Bio:
Vaidehi is an engineer at Tilde, in Portland, Oregon, where she works on Skylight. She enjoys building and breaking code, but loves creating empathetic engineering teams a whole lot more. She is the creator of basecs, a weekly writing series that explores the fundamentals of computer science, co-host of the Base.cs Podcast, and a producer of the BaseCS video series. Currently, she is at work on baseds, a writing series on the basics of distributed systems.

Nathan's talk:
Title: xplat (cross platform) tools for Nx workspaces
Description: Whether you work in a large enterprise among diverse development teams using different technology stacks or just a startup wanting to make the right decision on how to build out your company's technology from square one, Nx provides peace of mind. The ability to scale out different stacks at anytime without leading your company directly into a corner is a decision your Managers and teammates will continue to thank you well into the future. We have experienced exactly this among our team at nstudio.

Based on our own internal client demands and cross platform development needs, we developed xplat tools which enhance Nx to provide Electron, Ionic and NativeScript support with an architecture that eases the ability to maximize code sharing between all these frameworks/platforms. Let’s take a look at what they are all about and how you can take advantage of them.

Nathan's Super Official Bio:
Nathan Walker has enjoyed the opportunity to work in the web/mobile app development arena for over 15 years. His varied background rooted in the world of design and the arts provides him a unique approach to problem solving. Spending several years working across multiple industries including entertainment, audio/video production, manufacturing, b2b marketing, communications, and technology helped establish a focused sensibility with client needs.

Note that April is back on Thursday!
