Full Moon Paddle at Saguaro Lake

Our last full moon paddle of the year!

This will be a very chill paddling event at Saguaro Lake. We'll put in (and later take out) at Butcher Jones Recreation Site from the beach, starting at about 6:00 pm. The sun sets at 6:19 PM and the full moon rises at 6:14 PM, so we should have enough light to get out on the water. We'll mostly be in an area of the lake where the motorboats don't go, so the water is likely to be relatively calm, but the whole place may be quite busy due to the full moon on a Saturday night. It's totally fine if you want to just float / sip on your choice of beverage / socialize at any point... this is about enjoying the moonlight and scenery, not power-paddling! No guests, adults only. Please stay near the group for safety.

Bring your own or rent a kayak / paddle board from one of these places:
https://azkayaks.com in Mesa. They allow you to return after they close at 5pm with their locker system. Their last rental goes out at 4:30 PM that day I believe.
https://redlinemesa.com also in Mesa. It may cost a few dollars more but they offer 24 hours rentals so you can bring it back the next day if you don't want to do it that night by 9:30 when they close. They also provide foam blocks with a hard kayak / paddle board rental to allow you to strap to your car without a roof rack.

We will have an electric pump & a manual pump for people to use if you bring something inflatable and don't have your own pump, but bringing your own electric pump is strongly encouraged!!

PFD's are required, and you'll want to also have a bunch of other basic gear like lights, dry bag, water shoes, etc. If you're new to paddling, reach out and we'll help you plan ahead! Bug spray is usually a good idea at this location also. We will have glow necklaces & sticks to share.

We'll meet at 5:00 pm in the parking lot of the Big 5 Sporting Goods at 2930 N Power Rd, Mesa, AZ 85215, along the east wall of the store.

From here you can figure out a carpool or take your own ride if you have a Tonto Pass and want to deal with parking (it's possible you will drive around for an hour at Butcher Jones and still not get a spot, so we STRONGLY suggest carpooling.) It's about a half hour drive to Butcher Jones Recreation Site from Big 5. If you want to buy your own Tonto Pass, please do so ahead of time. That Big 5 Sporting Goods sells them, as does the Bashas' in the same plaza.
