The Essential Soft Skills in Tech! Door Jeroen Heijmans
Honing secondary skills is the second-best way to become better at your primary job — and quite possibly the most effective one! I will argue that focusing on certain non-tech skills is often the best thing you could possibly do to become better at your tech job.
In this presentation we will go through the essential soft skills for folks in tech. We'll discuss why they are that important, what you can do to improve at them, and how they will effectively improve your primary skills!

Jeroen Heijmans is a home chef, gamer, developer, and CTO, living and working in Utrecht. He's been a speaker (and at times organizer) at local meetups, including DomCode several years ago. Links to Mastodon, LinkedIn, GitHub, and all the other socials can be found on Jeroen's website.

Monads explained! Door Ties van de Ven
Functional programming terminology can be quite intimidating, but it does not have to be. Learning this terminology actually helped me in becoming a better problem solver, and therefor better at programming (in any language). In this talk we will go into what all these fancy words like monad, monoid, functor etc. actually mean. We will go into a bit of theory but there will be no mathematics, and there will be a strong focus on practical everyday examples in Java. After this talk you will see that you have been using monads all along, know why the Java Optional is not a monad, and your abstract thinking skills will level up.

Ties is a software engineer with a passion for concepts, software engineering fundamentals and helping others. He combines these passions by doing public speaking, volunteer work for organisations like Devoxx4kids and codingcoach and working as a Software Quality Expert at Alliander.
