Where the heck is Sewaren? Apparently located at the Woodbridge municipal marina as a section of Woodbridge, NJ . This seasonal open-air waterfront bar sits on Smith’s Creek and offers views of the marina and surrounding waterfront. It features outdoor seating, live music, televised sporting events, and a relaxed tiki-bar atmosphere. The venue opened in 2024 and is owned by Woodbridge Township.

Kinderhook (originally Kinderhook Creek) is a well-known country-rock band and is retuning to the summer music scene. Formed in 1973 by Rutgers University students, the group built a large regional following throughout New Jersey and the Northeast with its blend of country rock, roots music, strong vocal blended harmonies, and energetic live performances. After disbanding in 1982, the band reunited in the 2010s and continues to perform regularly across New Jersey.

• The band originated through musicians connected to Rutgers University, rather than specifically in Bloomfield, although several members later had ties to northern New Jersey.
• They were one of New Jersey’s pioneering country-rock bands and were often compared to acts such as the Eagles and Poco.
• During their original run, they opened for major artists including Poco, Alabama, Commander Cody, and New Riders of the Purple Sage.
• Today they continue to perform at venues around the state, including appearances at Bernie’s Hillside Lounge, the Pattenburg House, and the Wonder Bar.
• For longtime New Jersey music fans, Kinderhook remains one of the classic “Jersey bar-band era” success stories—an influential regional act that never achieved major national fame but developed a remarkably loyal following that has endured for decades.

Yes, in case you were wondering, I have been a part of that loyal following since I first saw Kinderhook Creek perform on the fields of Rider in the mid 70’s. I’d be thrilled if you can join me at this country-rock extravaganza. Every year, I run into members of this group going to enjoy the band. Kinderhook performs classic covers as well as their own originals
