About us

Work. Home. Repeat.

New to the Coast? Working from home? Moved here and still building your circle? Finished a big week and too tired to organise anything?

Yes Janice, you’re not the only one.

Plus everyone is busy. Everyone says “we should catch up”. Then another week disappears.

This is group I designed as a place to safely meet people offline.

IRL. In Real Life. Put the phone away for one hour.

Have conversations. Discover something new.

Meet locals, travellers, new arrivals and curious people from different cultures.

This group will evolve based on what you vote for at the group. Starting with conversations... then based on interest explore the Coast together:

Art. Food. Markets. Music. Local events. Creative workshops. Language exchange. Random adventures.

No selling. No networking. No forced small talk. No speed dating. No politics.

Just real people interacting in real life.

Come solo. Most people will.

Less scrolling. More living.

Its going to be lit! In real life, analog fam.

Are you new to the Coast? Work from home and going stir crazy? Single? Travelling through in a van? Visiting from overseas? Or just keen to meet people on the same vibe?

Maybe you like LPs, organic food, film cameras, books, art, or old-school conversation.

The vibe is analog. Whatever that means to you.

Come along to NoPhone Sunshine Coast Meetup.

Real people. Real conversations. Phones stay in your pocket until the last 5 minutes.

No screens. More human.

Shy is fine. Limited English is fine. Come practice. No judgement.

We will alternate initially between:
Friday night after work
or
Saturday late afternoon

The meetup is held in bars and cafes, but you can simply grab a coffee, tea, or non-alcoholic drink.

Come along. Have a chat. Meet some interesting people.
Bring a kooky friend.

Why I started this
I created this because it was the sort of group I was looking for and could not find on the Coast.

The Sunshine Coast is beautiful... but sometimes it can feel like everything closes early and social life takes a bit of effort.

This is a low-key, intentional social club built around conversation, activities, and meeting good people.

No selling. No hidden agenda.

Just a place to show up, chat, and see what grows.

---
The Format
Each meetup runs for around 60 to 90 minutes.

Arrive
Order food and drinks by QR code, general chit chat.

Welcome
Phones away! And a quick hello from the host.

Whip Around
A 5–20 second introduction. Name and where you are from is enough.

Conversation Starter
A simple icebreaker in pairs.
This week: Best meals I ever had..,

Topic du Jour
A bigger group conversation.
This week: Places you would like to travel to...

Convo Booster
A surprise topic if conversations slow down.

The Pitt
Books, films, and things worth sharing.

Takeaways
Share something you enjoyed or learned.

Phones out and Vote
Choose future topics and special interest groups.

The group evolves with the people who come.

---

Future interest groups
Ideas include:

Film
Vintage movies, cinema nights, Strand, Pomona, or elsewhere.

Culture Exchange
Meet people from different countries and backgrounds.

Theatre
Local plays and performances.

Art
Painting trips, life drawing, beginner linocut, galleries.

Food
Special meals and local restaurants. Organic, slow food?

Social Skills
For anyone who finds groups, networking, or modern life a bit challenging.

The possibilities are open.

You decide what comes next.
---

Who is welcome?
You do not need special skills or clever stories.
You do not need perfect English.
Just bring curiosity, kindness, and manners your grandma would like.

---
Three simple rules
No selling
This is not a sales event, dating event, political event, or fundraiser.
It is simply social.

No pushiness
While open discussion of topics is encouraged, there is no requirement for any one to have the same beliefs. We discuss we don't push each other, No pushing each other to change beliefs or sign up to yours,
Let's bring back the old-fashioned idea of enjoying someone's company.

Respect people
No rudeness. No pushy behaviour. No sleaziness.
Treat people well.
Bring the manners you would use at your grandma's place.

---
If this sounds like your kind of thing... come along and say g'day.
We would love to meet you.
