More AI! MongoDB + RAG and Demystifying Model Context Protocol!

Details

We're back with more AI!

Along with April showers, we've got great talks and community events to announce! Join us Tuesday for another Node + AI event:

Kevin Bluer – Demystifying MCP: The Emerging Standard for LLM-App Integration

With OpenAI’s adoption of the Model Context Protocol (MCP), it’s quickly becoming the standard for integrating external data, tools, and services with large language models. In this session, we’ll explore real-world examples, implementation strategies, and best practices for integrating MCP into your agents and AI-driven applications!

Arturo Nereu – Implementing RAG with Node.js and MongoDB

Dive into the world of Retrieval-Augmented Generation as we explore building a chatbot application that can tap into your data for smarter responses. This technical session will guide you through utilizing OpenAI to generate embeddings, leveraging Node.js to craft the backend, and implementing vector search techniques with MongoDB.

Also this month... We're hosting a Hackathon!

Big thanks to ACC, a list of startup sponsors, and the City of Austin, we are bringing together 150+ hackers the last weekend of April for RiverHacks! – a hackathon to create the most amazing software AI, modern tools, and ingenuity can devise! There will be cash prizes and incredible opportunities to learn, network, and grow your community and skills. Check out the RiverHacks site at https://www.austincs.org/riverhacks for registration and info!

Stay tuned for more updates on talks and upcoming events!

What kind of talks to you support?

We support Lightning Talks (5 to 15 mins talk time) and Feature Talks (up to 1hr of talk time on a deeper subject). We do not support talks that pitch products or services. Austin Node.js Meetup attendees come expecting one thing above all – to learn. Help them learn and you'll be paid back greatly with their support and excitement!

What kind of topics do attendees love?

Attendees want to learn! Give a talk on a framework you built and open sourced, a project you made with new cutting edge tools, or provide a deep dive into a new cutting edge topic in full stack development, javascript/typescript based cli tooling, Artificial Intelligence, Crypto frameworks leveraging node based tooling, or anything else related to Javascript/Typescript/Node.js/Deno, etc.

How can I speak?

Send a Talk proposal via Meetup messaging or to meetup@iammattwalters.com with the following info and format:

[Talk Type and guestimate of runtime]
[Speaker Name]
[Sentence title for your talk!]
[A paragraph description of your talk. Mention what you'll be covering and what you want listeners to learn! Any supporting links are great to drop in as well.]

Be sure to save the date and propose a talk to share your expertise with the Austin Node.js community!
