Nomad Bead Merchants: Boulder jewelry making & classes

Regulars at Nomad are probably familiar with Wan Norby's tila bead yellow-brick-road bracelets. This miniaturized version creates a tiny, textured postage-stamp square of beads for the ear, complete with a wrapped briolette dangle and slim chains.

If you've been shy about diving into the full-on bracelet class, this is a great way to dip your toes and try out the technique in a smaller format. Class includes materials for one pair of earrings.

The wrap bracelet has become a modern classic. The basic technique can be adapted for length anywhere between two wraps and five (more if the creator is feeling really ambitious), and nearly any bead that can accommodate two thicknesses of thread will work well. Our beginners' version is a two-wrap made with rolled leather and 6mm round stone beads.

We have more than twenty colors of leather to choose from, including matte finishes and metallics, and an eccentric collection of beads and buttons to boot.

Join Wan Norby here at Nomad for a meditation in fine wire. These Viking knit necklaces are precision-woven in a loose tubular shape, then pulled through a drawplate to compress and stretch the weave.

The resulting necklaces are lightweight but substantial, finished by hand with bead caps or coiled wire, and make perfect displays for spectacular pendants.

Introduce yourself to one of the great basic techniques of beading! Learn to knot snugly and accurately between pearl or gemstone beads using Griffin beading thread and narrow tweezers. Choose from among Catherine's collection of pearls, ranging from off-rounds to baroques, from white to near-black.

All projects involving this kind of intensive knotting call for patience, but nothing flows like a well-crafted necklace using this technique. Be warned: Some of our students have become knotting addicts.
