SUMMARY
On this partial out and back, and loop hike in Monte Rio Redwoods Regional Park and Open Space Preserve near the coast in Sonoma County, we will hike among the second and third growth redwood and Douglas fir forest with scattered old growth redwoods, evergreen woodlands, and grassy meadows for about 9 miles with a cumulative elevation gain of about 2,000 feet via Monte Rio Redwoods Trail, River Mountain Rd, Monte Rio Rd, Madrone Trail (Eastside or Middle East Trail), Middle East Trail, Fern Springs Rd, Koarber Rd, Box Springs Rd, Monte Rio Rd, River Mountain Rd, and Monte Rio Redwoods Trail.

MEETING TIMES AND PLACES
For carpooling, meet 7:30am at 11th and Pst parking lot in Downtown Sacramento.
Please pay carpool driver the current of gas per gallon, plus pitch in for parking fees if applicable.
For those meeting directly at the trailhead, meet 10:00am at Monte Rio Redwoods Trailhead within Monte Rio Redwoods Regional Park and Open Space Preserve, and the address is 9610 Main St, Monte Rio, CA 95462. And there is an $8 parking fee, but if the parking lot is full, then park along Main St.

HIKING INFORMATION AND ESSENTIALS
DIFFUCLTY: Intermediate to hard due to some steep hills.
DISTANCE: About 9 miles.

ELEVATION: About 2,000 feet in comulative elevation gain.

ROUTE: Start at Monte Rio Redwoods Trailhead, then hike uphill on Monte Rio Redwoods Trail, then turn left and hike uphill on River Mountain Trail, then turn left and hike up and down on Monte Rio Rd, then turn left and hike on Madrone Trail, then keep to the left and hike down and up on the Middle East (or Eastside) Trail, then turn right and hike uphill on Fern Springs Rd, then turn left and hike gradually downhill on Koarber Rd to Sound of Music Overlook, then backtrack and hike gradually uphill on Koarber Rd, then turn left and hike up and down on Monte Rio(Box Springs) Rd, then keep to the right and hike up and down on Monte Rio Rd, then turn right and hike downhill on River Mountain Rd, then turn left and hike on Monte Rio Redwoods Trail back to the starting point. ESSENTIALS: Bring water, lunch/snacks, hiking shoes/boots, first aid kit, hiking poles if needed, sun protection (sunglasses, hats, etc), warm clothing in case of cold morning temperatures and fog, etc.
