Immerse yourself in the towering redwoods, rugged coastline, and historic towns of Humboldt County on this exclusive five-day photography workshop. From the Avenue of the Giants to the misty trails of Fern Canyon, we’ll explore some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Northern California, refining our photography skills in a small, focused group.

📍 Avenue of the Giants (Day 1 – Arrival & Journey North)
Our journey begins with a scenic drive through the Avenue of the Giants, one of the most awe-inspiring redwood corridors in the world. With time to stop and photograph ancient groves, winding roads, and soft-filtered light through towering trees, this will set the tone for our adventure.
📍 Redwood National & State Parks
Two full days of exploring the most iconic and hidden gems of the redwoods:
• Fern Canyon – A lush paradise where 50-foot canyon walls are draped in ferns and mist, perfect for capturing soft light and depth.
• Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park – Home to some of the tallest trees on Earth, with winding trails, open meadows, and Roosevelt elk.
• Orick & Coastal Overlooks – Hidden trails and stunning ocean vistas where the redwoods meet the Pacific.
📍 Trinidad & Coastal Seascapes
The charming town of Trinidad offers rugged sea stacks and pristine beaches:
• Golden Hour & Sunset Photography – Capturing waves crashing against the cliffs, shifting fog, and dramatic coastal colors.
• Beach & Tidepool Photography – Exploring reflections, textures, and movement along the shoreline.
📍 Ferndale & Humboldt Redwoods (Day 5 – Backroads & Departure)
Our final day includes historic Ferndale and scenic backroads into Humboldt Redwoods State Park:
• Rolling Ranchlands & Foggy Hills – A stunning contrast to the dense forests, featuring golden summer grasses and winding country roads.
• Lost Coast Vistas – If conditions allow, we may capture the rugged coastline where few visitors venture.
• Final Stop in the Redwoods – One last chance to photograph ancient giants before heading home.

🌿 Yosemite National Park (Day 1) – We’ll travel over Tioga Pass, stopping to photograph Tuolumne Meadows, Tenaya Lake, and Olmsted Point, where sweeping mountain vistas and pristine alpine landscapes await before we descend into the Eastern Sierra.
🏚 Bodie Ghost Town – Step back in time in this remarkably preserved gold rush town, where abandoned buildings and rusting relics create hauntingly beautiful compositions.
🌊 Mono Lake – Capture sunrise and sunset at this surreal lake, where otherworldly tufa formations rise from the reflective water, offering perfect conditions for long exposures and dynamic skies.

📍 Pierce Point Ranch – Step back in time at this well-preserved 19th-century dairy ranch. Learn how to compose striking images of weathered buildings, rolling pastures, and the windswept landscapes of the Tomales Point area.📍 Drakes Beach – Capture the interplay of light and shadow on the dramatic sandstone cliffs. We’ll explore techniques for seascape photography and working with changing tides.

The landscape transforms as the lush greens of spring give way to rolling grasslands shimmering in warm, golden hues. The oak woodlands and redwood forests remain vibrant, offering a cool retreat from the sun, while the open ridges provide panoramic views stretching from the San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean.

Our Journey Begins at Alpine Dam
We’ll kick off at Alpine Dam, where calm waters reflect the towering redwoods and oaks, creating perfect compositions for moody forest scenes and abstract details of the dam’s architecture. Here, we’ll go over composition, lighting, and camera settings to prepare for the day ahead.Forest Trails, Rolling Fog & Golden Light
From Alpine Dam, we’ll gradually ascend toward Bolinas Ridge, stopping to capture:
🌿 Moss-covered oaks & towering redwoods filtering soft afternoon light
🌼 Wildflower-filled meadows can still be found in pockets—bright yellow tarweed, delicate farewell-to-spring blossoms, and the occasional late-season lupine dot the hillsides
🌫 Rolling fog drifting through the valleys, creating ethereal landscapes
If conditions are right, we’ll position ourselves on Bolinas Ridge to capture the famous "islands in the sky" effect, where peaks rise above a sea of mist—an absolute dream for photographers!Golden Hour & Sunset Magic
Before sunset, we’ll take a short hike near the peak along a creekside trail in oak forests, then head to a vista point, where you'll enjoy sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay and Pacific Ocean.
