A love story, an adventure, and an epic of the frontier, Larry McMurtry’s Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, Lonesome Dove, the third book in the Lonesome Dove tetralogy, is the grandest novel ever written about the last defiant wilderness of America.
Journey to the dusty little town of Lonesome Dove, where retired Texas Rangers Augustus McCrae and Woodrow Call undertake a perilous cattle drive to the untamed plains of Montana. Along the way, they face danger, adventure, and an unforgettable cast of characters. Richly authentic and beautifully written, Lonesome Dove is a story of love, loss, and the unyielding spirit of the American West.
Please note:
- It's a little confusing that this is Book 3 of 4, but the first 2 books are prequels. Lonesome Dove can be read as a standalone novel.
- This is longer than our usual picks (over 800 pages), so it might be good to get started earlier.
- Kennedy picked this book, and it's one of her favorites. Even though it’s pretty long, she feels that it’s an easy/captivating read.
