Lake Whitney Stargazing and Camping
Details
NTO invites you to come out to Lake Whitney State Park for stargazing and camping.
On Saturday evening there is a stargazing event planned at the park. A retired national park ranger and astronomer will guide us through planets, moon, and stars with star maps, laser pointers, and telescopes.
You can bring a camp chair, binoculars, and a flashlight with a red beam. Space is limited, so you will need to call the office to register at (254-694-3793. Or email Ranger Rita at rita.eisenschenk@tpwd.texas.gov.
The cost is free with park admission.
Just about an hour and a half south of Dallas/Ft. Worth is Lake Whitney State Park. The lake has 23,00 surface acres offering boating, fishing, and a swimming beach. No fishing license is required and the park offers loaner tackle.
There are several hiking/biking trails rated easy, where you can see plenty of wildlife. Birdwatching is popular with over 194 bird species identified, including wild turkeys and bald eagles.
I have reserved site #136 on Lake View Camping Loop Friday the 14th to Sunday the 16th. Kids are welcome to join us.
Was thinking of going into town for dinner Saturday as the stargazing program starts at 7. Or we can do dinner on our own. Let me know in the comments what you want to do so I can make reservations if needed. All other meals will be on your own.
I plan to go hiking on Saturday and if the weather allows, kayaking may be on the agenda. Of course we will have a campfire after the program on Saturday and Friday night too!
You are responsible for your own trip and well being as well as making your own camping reservations.
