Lone Star Hiking Trail Beginner 2 Night Backpacking Trip (part 2)
Details
The Lone Star Hiking Trail (LSHT) is a jewel set in the canopied dense, exotic semitropical Sam Houston Forest. The occasional creek bottoms and ridges offers a variety of trees and plant life along gentle rolling hills. There are more than 30 different common wild animals.
The LSHT is a 96 mile long thru hike with 11 sections with trailheads. We will be backpacking for 3 days and 2 nights doing sections 1 and 2 for a total of 16 miles. There are hiker camps along the way. These are PRIMITIVE camps, no luxuries, no facilities, no water. Everything you need must be carried with you.
Here's the plan:
We will meet at Trailhead #1 (Richards) at 9:00 - 9:30 and start hiking at 10:00. If you are late you will have to catch up. The goal is to hike 5.1 miles to Hiker's Camp and stay for the night. Day 2 we will hike about 7.2 miles (mile 11.8) to the Caney Creek Camp. Day 3 we will hike 4.7 to Trailhead #6 (South Subblefield). For a total of 16 miles.
There is water to filter along the way about every 2 - 4 miles. At the 2nd night camp there is good reliable water source.
This is a beginner backpacking thru hike. So I will be offering support along the way. I can help shuttle people to trailhead #1 at the beggining of the hike. Or I can help shuttle you back to your car at the end of the hike. I will also be available at trailheads #1, #2, #3. I will also be at the crossroads at Osborn Road, and FS 204/271. I can carry water if needed, but you will need to come to the car to pick it up. Also, if you find you don't need something you can leave it with me. If you decide that this hike is too much for you, I can bring you back to where I am camping.
Currently there is no burn ban in the area where we will be hiking
I am planning on going out there on Thursday night. I will be staying at the Stubblefield Rec, Area. You are welcome to join me. I plan on meeting you at camp for dinners.
At the end of the hike we can catch lunch at Haynie's General Store an Restaurant in Richards, TX.
There will be a gear review on Monday Februrary 9th at 7:00 pm at the United Co-op community room. 2601 S. Burleson Blvd, Burleson, TX 76028 (the SE crner of 35W and Bethesda Rd) I will have an NTO sign.
Do Your own research.
