Full Moon rising over Golden Gate Bridge

Hawk Hill

$15.00

Shoot the full moon rising over the Golden Gate Bridge Join "Friends of Photography" to capture the full moon rising over Golden Gate Bridge just after sunset. Note: Please wear protective masks and keep a safe distance away from others. I will disclose the exact location once you have signed up. The focal length recommended is your medium to long telephoto lens 200mm-300mm. A tripod is suggested as you will be doing long explorers in low light situations. Learn from each other how to incorporate expose times, f/stop settings and certain photographic techniques that are beneficial in nighttime photography. Main areas of emphasis will be capturing a peak moment the moon rising behind the Richmond Bridge. The evening will be filled with great photographic opportunity which is perfect for the any novice hobbyist or the season professional. All different skill levels of photography are welcome, but please read your camera manual if your unfamiliar with your camera settings. Note: This Meet-Up is not a photography "teaching" workshop but a group setting that shares photography ideas. If you'd like more of a one-on-one learning experience with Frederic please visit his website http://www.fredericlarson.com which can offer individual photographic instruction. Bodie a Ghost Town at Night (September group)

Mono Lake - South Tufa Area

$295.00

Ghost Town of Bodie & Mono Lake at Night We will have to wear masks and practice social distancing but the park is open for us that evening. Plenty of room to shoot, we have the whole town to ourselves. Join Frederic Larson to photograph the night sky over a historical ghost town of Bodie. The MeetUp fee includes the permit fees/insurance for one-night at Bodie State Historic Park where we will have total access without any tourists. The permit (the bulk of the MeetUp fee) allows us to photograph the ghost town until 12am – long after the park is normally closed to visitors. In addition, on Friday evening we will be photographing star-trails over Mono Lake (if its open). The weekend will be a perfect time as it will be a new moon with a very dark sky. Both locations are near the town of Lee Vining. Areas of photography interest: *Friday Evening 5:30pm: Tufa Mono Lake (subject to closure) Saturday: Fall colors (TBA) Saturday 6pm: Meet at the front gate of Bodie Park A sturdy tripod is a must, as you will be doing long explorers in low light situations. We will be learning from each other how to incorporate expose times, f/stop settings and certain photographic techniques that are beneficial in nighttime photography including focusing and composing in the dark which can be challenging. All different skill levels of photography are welcome. Most cameras with APS-size or full-frame sensors can handle photographing star trails. For capturing pinpoint stars and the Milky Way you’ll need a relatively fast wide-angle lens 16mm with a maximum aperture of f/2.8. You still can achieve a gorgeous stars-trail with a slower lens as well. Pack a night headlamps, warm clothing and extra batteries. Night photography can be challenging at best so I recommend every member planning to attend to have some night-time photography experience. Larson will have restrictions on light-painting so everyone will be guaranteed a clean shot. Bodie is at 8400 feet and it might get chilly at night so dress accordingly. Bring your own food & drink (no alcohol beverages allowed). We are allowed to storage our gear in the theater which will have a portable heater and a plug for a coffee pot. Bathrooms are on site. Each individual will be responsible to book their own motels rooms. Larson will be staying at the Lake View Motel in Lee Vining. Please book early as the town is very popular, especially for photographers. *Note: lodging, travel, food and drink are not included in this MeetUp price. NOTE: It's best to call the front desk of Lake View Hotel[masked] to book reservation instead of going through a 3rd party. This event will be limited in attendance because of permit restriction. If you bring a guest (non-photographer) they will have to pay the same rate to just observe.
