What we're about

Easy going, friendly music group created for the pursuit of making and/or recreating music with an emphasis on the acoustic guitar.
The purpose of the Meetup is to provide a welcoming platform for acoustical music enthusiasts of all types to come together to play music and collaborate with others! It's an opportunity to work on our craft, to practice while having fun with others who also love music.
The group setting is a great forum to get your feet wet playing at public venues with friendly supportive faces watching. Some of our members are accomplished musicians, others are beginners. So we ask that everyone be respectful of all members. The best way to get better is to play and to learn from advanced musicians, so let's all support each other! \

We are called "Unplugged", however, we usually do use amps and mics at our Open Mic events, but we try to keep it organic. Any style of music and all levels of players are welcome.
All acoustic instruments are welcome: guitar, bass, ukulele, mandolin, banjo, autoharp, violin, cajon, djembe, hand percussion, & vocals. \

Whether you like to write your own tunes or just learn the classics; whether you are looking to play at an Open Mic or to perform at an event, this group is here for support and feedback. We schedule public performance meetups at local area cafes as well as private guitar circles at our member’s homes and public locations.
A great Meetup for collaborating and learning from one another or just to have fun.

Old California Coffee Open Mic

Needs a location

We are at Old California Coffee, San Marcos, Sat, Aug 13th from 1 to 4 pm for an "Open-Mic/Jam". This venue is "outside" on Old Cal Coffee's front patio. If you would like to wear a mask, feel free--you can take it off when you perform or not (it's up to you). I will bring 100-plus microbial microphone covers. I will also bring rubbing alcohol to wipe off the mic(s) before placing a new microbial microphone cover. You can opt to bring your own microphone or microbial mic covers will be provided. Ron S. will be setting up the PA. If anyone would like to arrive 12:30-ish to help Ron out, that would be appreciated.

Friendly reminder, please keep your music "G" rated as many patrons bring children to the coffee shop. Specify YES on the Meetup if you are going to perform --no need to specify YES for "GUEST(S)". We will maintain COVID protocols as specified by the cafe.

If you post your songs in the Meetup chat, folks can and will accompany you. If you do not want others to join in with you (serious, aspiring artists), just speak up during the venue, other performers will respect your wishes.

We accept all levels of playing; we only ask that you can play a tune or two all the way through. We encourage new learners as the Core Values of NCU is to celebrate music; we strongly encourage everyone to try out this supportive group.

Old California Coffee maintains copyright licenses so we can play cover tunes. If you would prefer to stop by and check us out; come up to either Ron or myself (Sheila) and say hello! Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Circle Jam at Jim's

Needs a location

This is a circle jam at my house. Bring your sing-a-long songs from today or yesterday. Please, no songs that involve the Bb7aug9 or similar chords! Three chords and the truth are more than welcome.

We will be outdoors on my back deck under shade. If the group gets too big we will split and half will move to the front garage.

If you arrive late and the front gate is closed, call me at[masked]. There is plenty of overflow parking in the easement on the side of our property. My concern is making sure that our dogs do not get out on the street.

Hope to see you in San Marcos on Saturday, and if not, at my place on Sunday.
