Intentional Hike: Remembering Indigenous People on the Deer Creek Tribute Trail

Details
Deer Creek Tribute Trail Intentional Hike
Learn about and commune with the Nisenan Native American tribe in cool historic Nevada City! We will take time at the start and end for group meditation and pause along the way to read signs about the Nisenan who lived on this land.
Trail: We will walk down to Deer Creek where we can cross the creek on a scenic small suspension bridge. The hike will then follow the creek for another half mile. There are lovely quiet shady pools and a bit of white water along this path. We will then retrace our steps back to where we started.
Conditions: The trail consists mostly of a wide forested fire access road with a short section of narrower trail in the middle. There is some gradual up and down hill that anyone of average fitness can manage. The suspension bridge sways a bit; anyone who feels uncomfortable with this is welcome to wait on a nearby bench for the rest of the group to cross and return.
Distance: It's about a 3-mile hike.
Elevation Gain: 325 feet elevation gain
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Time: Allow 2 hours for hiking, scenic views, and meditation.
Temperature: The current forecast is for low 80s in the morning and upper 80s for the afternoon high. We will cancel if the prediction is above 95.
Facilities: Ample paved parking but no rest rooms. There may be a chemical toilet across a nearby athletic field. The Chevron station at Sacramento and 49 has restrooms and also SPD market up the street from the trailhead has a restroom in the stockroom the public is allowed to use.
Carpool: Hikers may make their own carpool arrangements if desired. The drive is about an hour from Roseville and Nevada City and a little less from Auburn.
Equipment to bring: One quart of drinking water and a light snack. A hat and sunscreen. Good trail shoes.
If you have signed up and are not able to attend, please update your RSVP prior to the event. This will allow others who want to attend to do so, and ensure we have the correct count for who will be there. Thank you!
If needed, we will reschedule or change locations, due to weather.
