Volunteers from Auburn, Ca are joining the thousands of people who are gathering this Fall in towns across the United States to promote suicide prevention.
Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States and the 2nd leading cause of death of young people ages 10-25 in California, yet suicide can be prevented.
This gathering will support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s education, research and support for survivors of suicide loss. In addition to raising awareness and funds to fight suicide, the walks give those who attend a chance to connect with others and know they are not alone, whether they walk in memory or in support of a loved one or in honor of their own mental health journey.
“Suicide touches one in five families in the United States. We hope that by connecting with one another, we will draw attention to this issue and keep other families from experiencing a suicide loss. Our goal is to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide,” said Christian Couto committee chair and Greater Sacramento area board member.
The Placer County Out of the Darkness Community Walk is one of the hundreds of events being held nationwide this year.
