What we’re about

For most of human history fruit and vegetable breeding was done by communities sharing seeds and plants. Breeding plants adapted for their local environment for local consumption. Northern fruit and vegetable breeding club is a place where people interested in learning about plant breeding can exchange seeds/scions/rootstock with other local amateur breeders and gain new skills and knowledge on fruit/veg growing/breeding.
We will act as a hub for group projects. Are you interested in developing hard cider apples? How about breeding peaches, pecans, or other more southern fruits for our northern climate? Breed vegetables for shady conditions. Create your own landrace of winter squash. We can set up meetings to compare fruit, exchange seed/scions, and compile collective data.
Breeding of fruit trees and vegetables is a process that can takes years to decades, but every journey has to start somewhere. Whether you are a beginner gardener interested in learning about plant breeding, growing, and grafting or an experience gardener, I hope you will join us.
