On this outing we’ll hike a 2-mile trail system through a 43 acre preserve which was donated in 2004 to Pendleton County by a now-deceased landowner who wanted future visitors to explore and experience the natural beauty of her property as she had. We'll start by examining a portion of Flour Creek near the parking area. Then we'll embark on the hilly trails which are on dirt, grass, moss and rocks, plus a couple stream crossings which are dry most of the year. We'll cross a few wood foot bridges and pass a couple old rock fences. A local naturalist and retired game warden, Sierra Club member Barth Johnson who maintains the trails, will be our nature guide. He'll explain the preserve’s history and help us identify trees, wildflowers and wildlife as we hike.
