Pelican River Paddle

Details
This time we are paddling in the Rhinelander area on our very own Pelican River. What makes this three mile section of the Pelican special are the two rapids and riffle areas that are unique from the rest of the river. Paddle the Pelican River, Tuesday, June 10, 10:30-2:30. meet at Hwy 8 culvert . It is recommended that you have intermediate skills in moving water. The majority of the paddle will offer a slow moving current with a tree lined shoreline up to the first set of rapids . Depending on the water level these rapids could be classified somewhere between class I-II. A class I rapids is fast water with some waves and obstructions but easily negotiated, requiring little maneuvering, suitable for paddlers with some moving-water experience. Entering a class II rapids you should be able to read the river in determining your route and maneuver among awkwardly located rocks, while encountering high waves. If this sounds like fun, then you need to experience this section of the Pelican. A week before the paddle, this section will be paddled to see what the conditions are like and a more accurate description of the river will be posted at that time. We will meet at the put-in which is the culvert on Hwy 8, drop off our boats/gear and shuttle our vehicles to the take-out bridge on River Bend Road. A PFD is required on all NPT paddle events. This section is a Hoot, and lots of fun. Any questions please contact me. Directions from Rhinelander at the intersection of Hwy 17 and Hwy 8. Take Hwy 8 east and cross the Pelican River bridge, app. 1 mile on the right will be Morgan Ln, and then Foster Lane on your left. Just past Foster Lane on Hwy 8 to your right you will see the culvert, our put-in. If you get to Hay Meadow Rd (left) and Rivers End Rd (right) turn around. I hope you can join us on this NPT adventure. - Jay
