Northern Rockies Explorers

Let's hike to the tallest peak in the Whitefish Range and take in the unending mountain peaks and vistas into Canada, Glacier Park and western Montana. All the scenery you can handle.

We'll also reach the top of Lake Mountain, another peak along the way. We'll take a little break there and then descend several hundred feet on the trail before we begin the climb to the top of Nasukoin. We'll have mountains all around and also views of the Chain Lakes below us.
This time of the year the fall colors will be outstanding.

We'll need to drive about 19 miles on gravel roads to reach the trailhead.
Bring your dog if he or she is well-behaved around other hikers.

Trail Length: approx 12.5 miles
Elevation Gain: approx 3,200 feet
Please bring your bear spray.

Also bring the usual hiking gear, including plenty of water, lots of high calorie snacks and/or a wrap or sandwich, sun protection (sunglasses, hat, etc.), trekking poles. There's no water on the main trail.

We'll meet in the Whitefish Super 1 Foods grocery store parking lot at 7:30 AM, between the McDonalds and the Wells Fargo ATM. We'll figure out a carpool. From here we'll drive about 15 miles northwest on Hwy 93 to the town of Olney, then take a right onto the gravel Olney Crossover Road.
