Cross Country Ski in Essex at soon-to-be-closed "Loge"
Details
Let's enjoy the last day (or one of the last days) that the Loge in Essex is open to the public. This wonderful venue faces another uncertain future due to impending bankruptcy. Recently the ski/trail fee was $1 (normally $25), as the trails are half-groomed with some closures due to downfall, and employee morale is pretty low.
The original Izaak Walton Lodge was built in 1939 as housing for the railroad workers on the Great Northern line.
They are no longer renting equipment but the restaurant is/was open. I'd like to take time for an apres-ski beer in the downstairs bar if they are still serving.
Bring snacks, water, cross-country skis, boots and poles, extra layers, etc. We'll meet at the park and ride lot at the corner of Hwy 2 and Hwy 206 at 9:30am and arrange for a carpool.
