This will be a fun trek mostly along a forest service road up to the lookout where we'll enjoy expansive views of the reservoir. We'll have a break for lunch/snacks at the lookout and take our time enjoying the views.

The lookout was constructed in 1953 and is still staffed by volunteers in the summer months. Maybe you too can sign up to help your local forests and be a fire lookout next season.

R/T Distance: approx 7.6 miles
Elevation Gain: approx 1,400 feet
Bring your bear spray.

Bring your dog if he/she is well-mannered around people.

With any luck we'll have a beautiful sunny day for hiking. Bring extra layers, food and plenty of water. The East Side HH Dam Road was in somewhat rough shape the last time I drove it so we'll just take it slow. We'll meet at the park and ride lot on the corner of highways 206 and 2 on the edge of Columbia Falls to arrange a carpool (see map pin).
