About us
NMCG hosts bike rides of varying lengths and speeds in the northern metro and beyond. Whether you want to start cycling, get back into cycling, meet other cyclists, improve your health, or just mix socializing with exercise, this group has something to offer. This group is open to cyclists of all skill levels.
We will organize at least two rides a month, one on a weekday evening and one on a weekend. We will ride on both bike paths and roads that are suitable for safe cycling (e.g. large shoulders or bike lanes). Each ride will have its own description so riders know what to expect and can decide if the ride is appropriate for them.
While NMCG will do its best to choose safe and enjoyable routes, each rider will be responsible for their own safety by:
-Wearing a helmet at all times during the ride and using other safety gear (e.g. lights, mirrors, reflective clothing) as appropriate
-Participating in rides that reflect their physical fitness and abilities
-Riding responsibly and respecting the rules of the road or path
-Bringing adequate nutrition and hydration based on the type of ride and the weather conditions
-Bringing basic emergency equipment (e.g. patch kit, bike pump or other inflation device, etc.) with them on the rides
-Bringing any medicine they may need for acute or chronic medical conditions while riding
-Notify other riders if they experience medical or other problems during the ride
-Any other action that will keep themselves and the group safe during the ride.
We may incorporate social events into the rides, such as ending a ride at a restaurant, coffee shop or brewery, or cycling to a specific event. We may also organize social events that do not include actual cycling (e.g. presentations about cycling trips, tips for improved performance, maintenance classes, etc.).

Thursday Evening Roll
Location not specified yetLet's meet for an evening ride around the old army base and along Lexington Ave. through Lexington and Circle Pines. This will be one of our more leisurely rides (10 to 12 miles an hour) for recreational riders. Come out to enjoy the weather, meet friends, and get some light exercise in.
We'll meet at the Rice Creek Water Trail parking lot and start with the short loop of the army base to the south. Then we'll head north through the Rice Creek North Regional Trail Corridor to Golden Lake. There are several connecting paths along the way, so we can explore at a leisurely pace and cover about 10 to 15 miles.
As always, we'll have saddle bags along to carry extra clothing in case riders aren't sure how many layers to wear and want to bring extra clothes. There are places to eat and drink after the ride in case anyone wants to stick around and socialize.
Call Marti at 651-373-6592 if you have any questions, or if you have suggestions for other routes that we might do.

Elm Creek Double Header (Part 1)
Location not specified yetOur last trip to Elm Creek Regional Park was hampered by the rain and cold temperatures, so we're headed back to the Park for another try. This will be a two part event, but you can sign up for either (or both) parts.
Part 1 will meet at the picnic area by the Elm Creek Park playground (see directions below) at 10:00 for a relaxed ride around the park on the paved trails. The park has 20 miles of trails, so there will be lots to explore. We will ride the loop around the outside of the park, but if you want a shorter route, there are paths through the park to get back to the start. We will regroup at the picnic area at noon for lunch. Bring your own picnic lunch and drinks.
We will relax and socialize for an hour before Part 2 starts, which will be a more energetic ride along the Medicine Lake Trail south of the park. You can sign up for that ride separately.
If you just want to meet us for lunch, that's okay too. The goal is for us to meet and get to know each other.
To get to the picnic area - From Highways 610 and 81 on the south edge of the park, take the Elm Creek Blvd exit and go north to the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the Park Rd. N/James Deane Pkwy into the Park. turn left into the parking area at the first crossroads. I will park as close to the entrance of the parking lot as possible. If you have trouble finding the parking lot, you can call or text me at 651-373-6592.

Elm Creek Double Header (Part 2)
Location not specified yetOur last trip to Elm Creek Regional Park was hampered by the rain and cold temperatures, so we're headed back to the Park to try again. This will be a two part event, but you can sign up for either (or both) parts.
Part 1 will tour the park from 10:00 a.m. to noon before stopping for lunch at the picnic area at noon. Riders for Part 2 are invited to bring a picnic lunch and join the Part 1 group for socializing. Bring your own picnic lunch and drinks.
At 1:00, the Part 2 group will head south through the park to the Medicine Lake Trail, which will take us to Fish Lake Park. We will be on paved paths the entire ride, but we will not take the shortest route and may explore a little (I haven't been past Fish Lake Park on this trail, so we can go further if people are up for it), so the ride will end up being 20 to 30 miles. The average speed should be about 15 miles an hour.
If you just want to meet us for lunch at noon, that's okay too. The goal is for us to meet and get to know each other.
