We train at One Spirit Martial Arts (OSMA) in Herndon, VA, and serve students of all ages -- from kids to adults throughout Northern Virginia including Herndon, Reston, Oakton, Vienna, Chantilly, Tysons Corner, McLean, Ashburn and surrounding cities.
Our training includes:
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ, both Gi and No-Gi) and Submission Grappling including a variety of ground fighting disciplines such as Gracie Jiujitsu, Catch Wrestling, Wrestling, and Judo ๐ฅ

Instruction takes place under the lineage of Pedro Sauer, an 8th-degree BJJ black belt recognized worldwide for technical precision and decades of teaching experience.

About Officer David Ortiz
Officer David Ortiz is a former U.S. Army combat veteran and federal police officer with extensive experience teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and defensive tactics for real-world law enforcement applications.
Instructor Ortiz specializes in pressure-tested control, restraint, and duty-belt-aware techniques, helping officers train safely, effectively, and with direct relevance to the job.
In September of 2025 Mr. Ortiz was promoted to first degree Black Belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu by Professor Pedro Sauer.
In addition to his submission grappling background, Mr. Ortiz has also earned a 4th Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo (TKD) as well as a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Hapkido.

This adult (16+) class combines technical instruction, pad work, partner drills, and cardio training to build real-world skill and endurance in a safe, structured setting.
Beginners and experienced students alike will learn how to apply the principles of Muay Thai: The Art Of Eight Limbs, through precise strikes, timing, and defense.
Classes take place every Saturday at 10:00 AM.

This is a student-driven session designed to help you explore what matters most to your BJJ development.
Whether you want to research techniques, review material from the week, or roll with different partners, this open format gives you the flexibility to focus on your own goals.
An instructor will be present to answer questions, offer feedback, and help troubleshoot positions, but the pace and flow of the session are entirely up to you.
You can drill, experiment, or get in some live rounds in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Open training is ideal for students who want to refine their technique, test new ideas, and build confidence through consistent practice.
All skill levels are welcome -- come train, learn, and grow with the Northern Virginia Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community!
Note: We are located in Suite #130.

Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Class at OSMA in Herndon, VA ๐ฅ
One Spirit Martial Arts, 510 Spring Street, Suite 130, Herndon, VA, USThe One Spirit Martial Arts (OSMA) Youth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) program is designed to help children build confidence, coordination, and practical self-defense skills in a safe, structured, and positive environment.
The drop-in fee for non-members is $30, payable at the door.
This class is for students six to thirteen years of age and runs from 5:15 PM to 6:00 PM, providing a focused, age-appropriate training session that fits well into an after-school routine.
Located in Herndon, VA, OSMA is easily commutable from Oakton, Reston, Sterling, and Great Falls, as well as other nearby Northern Virginia communities.
Parents are welcome to stay and watch -- OSMA has a dedicated seating area where you can comfortably observe your childโs progress during class; parents may also take advantage of the OSMA guest WIFI if they need an Internet connection.
From a parentโs perspective, this class is about more than martial arts: children learn how to move their bodies with purpose, stay calm under pressure, follow instructions, work with others, and build resilience.
Students are taught to apply Gracie Jiu-Jitsu-based self-defense concepts responsibly, with an emphasis on control, safety, and respect.
What children will learn in this after-school program:
- Movement and coordination drills

- Standing takedowns
