Fun, Fitness, Friendship! The Northern Virginia Walking Club (Volksmarchers) is one of the leading volksport clubs in the US! A volksmarch is a leisurely walk through a scenic or historic area over a pre-marked trail, often using a trail description or map. The walk is non-competitive and participants travel at their own pace, making it an excellent recreational activity for the entire family. Join one of our three types of activities: 1. Traditional Walks with pre-marked trails (walk DIY during a window). 2. Year-Round or Seasonal Events, which are self-guided or DIY 3. Guided Group Walks. To defray expenses, request non-members and guests pay $2. Club members pay $4 for AVA walk-credit. Please bring correct change in cash. We featured curated walks led by experienced members. Annual dues are $10. Attendees under 18 must have a guardian with them. This hobby is world-wide, so try us if you like to travel! See the Masonic Temple & Old Town Alexandria! Walk 5 or 10 km (3 or 6 mi)
The George Washington Masonic National Memorial, 101 Callahan Drive, Alexandria, VA, USEnjoy a Guided Group Walk from the George Washington Memorial in Alexandria starting at 10 am. There is free parking at the Masonic building (101 Callahan Drive) and a terrific view. Learn more about the unique memorial at https://gwmemorial.org.
Old Town Alexandria dates back to the start of our country. The trail goes along city and residential streets, past stately homes and through local parks along the Potomac River. The town is full of American history featuring our first President, George Washington, and Civil War families like the Lees. Pets aren't allowed on Masonic Temple Grounds but can be kept in your vehicle while you register and can be walked to and from your car once you are walking.
The walk is $2 for non-members and guests to defray expenses for our sport and $4 for AVA walk credit. Please bring correct change in cash (e-payment is not possible). We feature curated walks by experienced members. Dogs and children are welcome but children under 18 must have a guardian present.
