Fun, Fitness, Friendship! The Northern Virginia Walking Club (Volksmarchers) is one of the leading volksport clubs in the US! A volksmarch is a leisurely walk through a scenic or historic area over a pre-marked trail, often using a trail description or map. The walk is non-competitive and participants travel at their own pace, making it an excellent recreational activity for the entire family. Join one of our three types of activities: 1. Traditional Walks with pre-marked trails (walk DIY during a window). 2. Year-Round or Seasonal Events, which are self-guided or DIY 3. Guided Group Walks. To defray expenses, request non-members and guests pay $2. Club members pay $4 for AVA walk-credit. Please bring correct change in cash. We featured curated walks led by experienced members. Annual dues are $10. Attendees under 18 must have a guardian with them. This hobby is world-wide, so try us if you like to travel! Wilson Bridge from VA to MD and back! Jones Point Park 5/10k 3/6mi
Jones Point Park, 1 Jones Point Park, Alexandria, VA, USCome join us as we walk across the Wilson Bridge from VA to Md and back. We'll start at Jones Point Park and walk up the bridge ramp and onto the bridge trail. Once on the trail, the view opens up. To our left, the Potomac stretches north toward Washington, and on a clear day you can see the Washington Monument and other historical structures. Also, Old Town Alexandria is in view — the marina, the waterfront, the rooftops. Mid‑span, you get the best views: planes taking off, landing, and lining up for National Airport and boats moving below. As we descend the Maryland side, the trail curves and drops into the National Harbor waterfront where we walk along the waterfront toward the Harbor and Capital Wheel. We'll turn-around just before entering the city itself, walk through Spirit Park, and return to Jones Point.
There's a 5K option where you turn around on the Bridge and return to the Start/Finish Point. Rob will meet the group under the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and depart for Maryland at 9am, so arrive by 8:45 am to register. Free parking is available in Jones Point Park, and optional lunch is likely to be at District Taco (located at 701 South Washington in Alexandria). The walk is $2 for guests to defray expenses for our sport and $4 for AVA walk credit. Please bring correct change in cash (we can't do e-payment).
