Find the Love--Occoquan Park & Suffragist Memorial! Walk 5 or 10km (3 or 6 mi)

Details

Come join our club (NVV) and the Fredericksburg Club as we explore the Workhouse Arts Center, Fairfax Cross County Trail and the Occoquan River. Both 5 and 10 km routes (3 or 6 miles) are mostly on paved surfaces and include a long, wood hill to/from the river. A really beautiful walk thru some nice woods and the great Occoquan Regional Park! You will also walk near the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial and Lucy Burns Museum, which highlights the 90+ year history of the former prison complex and events during 1917 which helped American women gain the right to vote. A colorful LOVE statue at the Workhouse Arts Center qualifies for Virginia's "Find the Love" special program. Enjoy food and beverages at Brickmaker's Cafe in Occoquan Park or the Bunnyman Brewery near the Start and Finish. Checkout their tasty menu, list of beers and home-made nonalcoholic beverages at https://bunnymanbrewing.com/beers.

The Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton (Building W-16 at 9518 Workhouse Way) is the starting point for this walk. Please meet Rob Grunewald in front of the Workhouse Arts Center and arrive in time to register around 8:45 a.m. since we plan to depart promptly at 9 a.m.

The Workhouse Arts Center has bathrooms and water available. The walk is $2 per walker (to help defray expenses for our sport) and $4 for AVA walk credit. Please bring correct change in cash. Dogs and children are welcome but those under 18 must have a guardian present. For more info contact Rob Grunewald, gruewar@yahoo.com, (703) 303-5543. Hope to see you there!
