NYGWB is going dark for awhile in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. There will be no May session. We will evaluate plans for June and July based on expert health recommendations and local public health orders at the time.

I'm sure you've all seen standard writing prompts. You've probably even told yourself you're going to get into the habit of doing those prompts on a regular basis... eventually. Blech! Boring. Awful. Screw that. We ain't about that.
Sure, this is about training your writing muscles to be consistent, yes. But consistency alone is boring. This is also about training your mind to be loose and improvisational. This is about learning to see the world around you in a new way. This is about learning to see everything as a prompt: sounds, images, songs, games, improv exercises, colors, smells, flavors. And, sure, we'll throw in a few traditional word prompts here and there, too. Words are nice. We like them very much.
If you're looking for a non-traditional, kick-you-in-the-butt writing prompt group, this is for you. It's not a workshop. We won't be writing stories and essays and sharing them with each other. We'll be getting together to power through (mostly) non-traditional writing prompts in order to keep our writing muscles trained, and our brains loose and creative.
In fact, to be blunt, I don't care if your writing is any good. There are lots of workshops out there where you can work on quality, but that's not the point here. We're all about quantity and creativity. If you start worrying too much about whether your experimental and creative impulses are any good, you'll stop yourself before you ever get anywhere.
Our guiding motto is "It's OK if it's sh*t! Just write!"

We'll try to meet at least once a month for a couple of hours, with some extras thrown in for special theme days. If group size gets unwieldy, we'll probably add an extra monthly meeting. Location TBD, but likely Covington-ish.
The rules are few and simple:
1. Respect each other.
2. Keep it R-rated or under (except on specially designated theme days).
3. NSFW language is OK, but when in doubt, see Rule #1.
