What we're about

Join this exciting inclusive Meetup for FREE and enjoy engaging First Friday socials, fun activities and adventurous events. Our members are hard-working gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender, queer or questioning (LGBTQ) professionals and advocates from a variety of disciplines such as military, government, banking, law, medicine, new media, interior or fashion design and communications. We all share the same desire to enjoy the company of like-minded professionals in a relaxed, fun atmosphere.

Build a stronger base of professional contacts. Share ideas and job possibilities, tap expertise, or meet potential clients or business partners. Benefit by making new connections and honing ideas. There are no membership dues to be a part of it. Nor are there referral expectations like BNI's. Just show up, meet new people, and have fun. This group sets an exciting new paradigm. It's a new day, a new era, and this facilitates valuable connections for personal, professional, and business success.

Our group is welcoming and inclusive, respectful of everyone under the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning (LGBTQ) rainbow and straight allies.

Our signature event is the monthly First Friday social hosted by TJ Flavell. Often we team up with other gay and lesbian groups to co-sponsor events, offering more opportunities for mingling and fun.

Better yet, you may join this cosmopolitan group regardless of where you reside, be it NoVA, DC, or Maryland, or wherever, you are welcome. Our events are the rage! Tell your friends and bring them along.

As Madonna said, "Come join the party..."

The Go Gay DC brunch on the front patio @ Freddie's Beach Bar & Restaurant officially starts at 10 a.m.

I plan to arrive at 10 a.m. to begin greeting everyone and to provide name tags.

Freddie's Saturday brunch is quite the deal and very delicious. All you can eat Diner-Style Breakfast Brunch Buffet for only$14.99 and comes with 2 glasses of champagne or mimosas. Not a breakfast food person, you can always order off the regular menu at https://www.freddiesbeachbar.com/brunch

There's no cover charge and there's no group tab. Simply order on your own on separate checks.

Casual beach attire is fine.

Feel free to invite all your friends to join you there.

Parking is usually available nearby on the residential side streets.

Metro Directions: Crystal City Metro is the closest Metro stop. When you arrive, go out the station, walk towards your left to 18th Street and then veer right and walk under the Route 1 overpass to Eads St. Turn left and walk to 23rd Street. Turn right. Freddie's is up 23rd Street just a block. Just look for the rainbow flags!

Freddie's was voted the Best Virginia Bar by Washington Blade readers. Don't like a smoky bar? You are covered: Freddie's is a smoke-free establishment. (Ashtrays are provided outside the building if smoking is 'your thing'). No cover charge. Name tags will be provided. (Oh, remember to bring your ID, as everyone who wishes to drink alcohol is carded of course!)

Yes, you are encouraged to your most fabulous mask when not dining if you wish. If you haven't been fully vaccinated, have a fever or cough, please just stay home. You can find a COVID-19 vaccine near you by searching locations on https://www.Vaccines.gov .

Freddie's is Northern Virginia's only LGBTQ+, straight friendly restaurant and bar. It offers Happy Hour daily from 4-7 pm. https://www.freddiesbeachbar.com/

LGBTQ+ Community Zoom

Online event

Look forward to the next Zoom. This time we will be focusing on a topic of interest to anyone living in the Washington, DC area: ways to improve our LGBTQ+ community.

Go Gay DC is hosting a virtual brainstorming discussion on ways it can make an even greater impact on the Greater Washington, DC area LGBTQ+ community.

If you would like to participate in the discussion, simply RSVP on Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/186366074947

We will gather virtually on Sunday, October 17 from 4-5 p.m. ET for an "LGBTQ+ Community Conversation." The format is a round of brief introductions followed by discussion. 5 p.m. is a soft stop, as there's lots to discuss given over a year of pandemic and community needs.

It's become clear that Go Gay DC can play a more central role in our community going forward beyond hosting social events. This discussion will shed more light on that and allow for grassroots feedback. Share your ideas on what's needed in the community that isn't being met by existing organizations. Share your ideas on potential event venues and charitable fundraising activities.

If you have experience with building a nonprofit, serving on a nonprofit board, fundraising, are a community organization leader, and or simply want to be more active in the community, so much the better.

You're welcome regardless of where you live in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. This meeting is officially hosted by Go Gay DC - Metro DC's LGBTQ+ Community Hub. Founder TJ Flavell (http://www.tjflavell.com) will be the host.

This event also has a Facebook page, so feel free to invite friends and colleagues who may be interested. https://www.facebook.com/events/858387761734526/

The Ven at Embassy Row, Washington, D.C., a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

***Please RSVP for free on Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/october-lgbtq-speed-friending-tickets-182247405897 so we have an accurate headcount.***

Looking to make more friends in the LGBTQ+ community? Trying to meet some new faces after 18 months of the pandemic? Then come join us for an upcoming night of 'Speed Friending', hosted by Go Gay DC!

Based on the popular 'speed dating' format, 'Speed Friending' is a social event where attendees are paired-up with strangers for multiple rounds of platonic conversations. There will be approx. 10 structured rounds (5 minutes each) where participants will be randomly paired-up with each other. Using recommended 'icebreakers', both participants will engage in friendly discussion about a wide range of topics. And once they hear the bell ring, participants will thank each other and 'rotate' to the next person.

COVID-19 Protocols: this event will be held primarily indoors (with an open patio door for ventilation), and vaccination cards are subject to being checked upon arrival. And in accordance with DC law, folks will have to wear their face masks if they're not eating or drinking.

Attendance is free and guests will have access to a full hotel bar (to purchase snacks and libations), so we encourage you to register your attendance in advance! We hope to see you there!
