What we're about

The Northern Virginia SQL Server Users Group was started in early 2005 by members of the Microsoft SQL Server community who were interested in sharing experiences and disseminating knowledge to other members in the Northern VA/DC/Central MD area. NOVASQL is also a chapter of the Professional Association of SQL Server ( http://www.sqlpass.org ), an international Microsoft SQL Server training and advocacy organization (membership is free). As data platform roles and responsibilities have evolved, we have broadened our scope to include Microsoft Azure Advanced Analytics, Big Data, and general Azure topics. The goal of the leadership of NOVASQL is to provide a comfortable environment where members can participate in multi-disciplinary discussions of Microsoft data platform related issues. Have you registered for the 2020 PASS Summit in Houston, TX on Nov 10-13? Here is the RSVP URL - https://www.pass.org/summit/2020/home.aspx and the discount code for Northern Virginia SQL Server Users Group: LGDISIFE7

NOVA SQL User Group - Weekly Friday Meetup Webinar

Online event

Hello everyone! Our July 10th webinar will feature Microsoft Senior Cloud Solution Architect, Louis Berman, and focus on app dev around Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Functions and Blazor. Session Title: "Go Serverless with Cosmos DB, Azure Functions and Blazor" Session Summary: Azure’s serverless story makes it dead simple to decompose yesterday’s clunky monolithic apps into performant DevOps-friendly microservices. Join Microsoft Sr. Cloud Solutions Architect Louis Berman as he introduces you to Serverless then shows you how to build and deploy a significant cloud-scale application by live-coding a flight-tracker application using real-world data. As a bonus he’ll also show you how to get a handle on your serverless workloads through DevOps. Speaker BIO/ LinkedIn link - https://www.linkedin.com/in/louis-berman/ Louis Berman is a serial entrepreneur who co-founded four different technology firms and was employed as a CTO at GiftCertificates.com and Kideo.com. He currently serves as a Sr. Cloud Solutions Architect (CSA) at Microsoft. As an early proponent of Azure (not to mention an unabashed booster of the Microsoft cloud; as evidenced by his AzureABILITY Podcast), Louis has architected, project-managed and developed countless Azure applications; both green-field and brown-field. These range from sales portals (Weichert Realtors) to secure content management (Wolters Kluwer) to custom trading simulators (Ars Unica) to HPC (DuPont) to petabyte-scale file repositories (Bentley Systems) to IoT (Comcast) to Serverless (NBCUniversal) to Infrastructure (Unisys) to Mobile Apps (Toyota) and more. Additionally, Louis has lectured extensively on Azure and DevOps and has open-sourced dozens of Azure solutions (DotNetVids, MediaSyncDemo, FuncityDoDa, BlobGateway). Technology-wise, Louis is a “Modern AppDev” sort of guy, focusing on Microsoft’s PaaS platform, especially App Service, Azure Functions, APIM, Cosmos DB, SQL Azure, AAD, EventGrid, Cognitive Services, Azure Batch, Logic Apps, App Insights, AKS, Containers, ARM, Azure Policy & Blueprints, and, of course, Azure DevOps and Github. An avid astronomer, Mr. Berman led the very first visual observation of Eris—the largest dwarf planet in our solar system—and is a recent president of the Delaware Valley Amateur Astronomers. A happily expatriate New Yorker, Mr. Berman lives on the outskirts of Philadelphia with his lovely and talented wife, set and costume designer Marie Anne Chiment. This Friday lunch time webinar series running from May 8th through July 24th, is designed to help you on your professional development. We will talk about a range of Azure related topics, of course covering SQL Server and Azure Data Services, but also Azure compute, networking, storage, security, monitoring and governance. We know some sessions we will have ALOT of attendees and some sessions might have less than 10. We will roll with it.
